![]() ![]() You'll have to work to balance having the human life you want and giving your goffin's the best life you can give it. Goffin's can be similar to other cockatoos in their tendency to make life challenging for you for the first couple or few years that you own it. Also, 6 months or a year or so after I got him he went through a face biting phase. Most of the screaming has gone away since I got him, but the first couple of years where rough. Or maybe goffin's just resemble spoiled brats in general. That might have more to do with being a spoiled brat from a previous home. He's really into foraging toys and I've had to re-do the latches on his cage because he's escaped before while I was gone and nearly burned the house down by chewing through plugged in electrical cords. Given a choice, he'd prefer very brief but intense snuggles to just sitting around being petted. He's more likely to pull out his feathers when I'm petting him though. He can snuggle, and he can enjoy petting. Actually, I pet him about as much or less than a pet my female amazon and amazons aren't known for liking a lot of petting. Don't get a goffin's if having a plucking bird will break your heart. He plucks a little bit as do A LOT of goffin's. I don't know how typical he is of the species. My sulfur is much more what you read about with cockatoos. He's kind of an enigma compared to my sulfur crested cockatoo. ![]() I've had a male goffin's for a few years. Now, I’ll leave it up to the people who can handle a feathered 2 year-old, because I know I couldn’t. I told myself that one day I would have one. But this is always how they’re described by parronts of Cockatoos.īack when I was really young I was in love with Cockatoos. And I’m not joking when I say they are like 2 year-olds, very smart 2 year-olds with a very big beak. ![]() Seriously, these birds can live 50+ years with good care. Ever bird is an individual, and though reading up on Goffins Cockatoos can be really helpful, you could end up with a bird so different then others - you never know.Īlso, is the bird being rehomed? If so, why? It is important you know this, you could end up with a bird who has behavioral issues who’s being rehomed for that reason.Ĭockatoos are just like feathered toddlers. I’m glad you’re not one of those people to jump into something as big and serious as this.Ĭould you possibly meet the bird in person? See how loud she really is. ![]()
